STAR, Globe launch heartwarming digital short film

A scene from ‘Daddy Stranger,’ a short film created by STAR and Globe Telecom in time for the Christmas season.

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine STAR has been a frontrunner in telling the story of the Filipino for the past 30 years. It has continued to do this successfully by expanding the paper’s influence through content on various platforms such as digital, outdoor and television.

This Christmas, a time of homecomings for Filipinos, The STAR and Globe Telecom tell the story of connecting loved ones with a touching digital short film.

“Daddy Stranger,” a short film about an OFW father coming home to his family for the holidays after many years, was launched last Dec. 2 at the Globe Wonderful World event held at Bonifacio Global City’s High Street Amphitheater.

With members of the media in attendance and journalist Atom Araullo as emcee, the event proved to be the perfect venue for the unveiling of the short film and showcased the many ways Globe can deliver great content to their subscribers, breaking ground in the digital landscape with the help of their content-rich partners.

Directed by Pepe Diokno and written by Palanca awardee Lilit Reyes, the short film is part of Globe’s month-long digital Christmas campaign #ConnectionsFromTheHeart, utilizing social media and digital assets of The STAR.

Since its launch last Friday, the video has been viewed more than 200,000 times, shared more than 1,000 times and has garnered over 6,000 reactions on Facebook.

The short film may be viewed on The STAR’s Facebook page and on their new video website, PhilStarTV.com. These efforts are in line with the launch of The STAR’s new offering, “Viewtorials,” a new way of presenting branded digital stories wherein slices of life are featured in bite-sized video formats – perfect for digital consumption.

The new media landscape has allowed a newspaper like The STAR to evolve. Aside from printed content, The STAR has now moved to different formats with this latest venture in creating digital content.
