LRT-1 doors slam shut as commuters enter

MANILA, Philippines – Saying the experience is scarier than the zombie film “Train to Busan,” a netizen posted a video showing a Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) train with doors that abruptly close a few seconds after commuters enter.

The Department of Transportation has called the attention of LRT-1 officials after Facebook user Seemon Florano’s 29-second video went viral.

Rochelle Gamboa, head of the LRT-1 corporate communications department, said the doors of the affected train have been fixed.

“We are doing our very best to be proactive on the maintenance of the 32-year-old train system while awaiting government procurement of new trains,” she said.

The video, uploaded Monday night, has been shared more than 17,800 times and had more than 1,176,631 views.

In March, LRT-1 passengers panicked and complained of breathing difficulties and heat exhaustion when train doors failed to open at the Central station in Manila.

Earlier that month, an LRT-1 train’s doors remained open as it ran from Central station to Baclaran.
