MANILA, Philippines — A new security measure at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will be greeting Philippine Airlines passengers bound for the US, as the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) installed an x-ray machine at the lobby of Terminal 1.

The MIAA installed another x-ray machine at the final security checkpoint for all hand carry bags in an effort to lessen long lines.

In December last year, the x-ray machines located at the entrance of every NAIA terminal was removed to give more room to departing passengers’ luggage and lessen the number of what was then criticized as “too many security checks.”

Meanwhile, MIAA and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines launched Oplan: Biyaheng Ayos, as Malasakit Help Desks were activated last Thursday at the NAIA terminals and other major airports in the country.

The program, under the instruction of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, is in anticipation of the heavy influx of passengers in celebration of Undas 2023, or All Saints Day.

The MIAA said the Malasakit Help Desks – staffed by doctors, nurses, police, public assistance and airport operations personnel – would help passengers needing assistance.

Bomb sniffing dogs from the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group will also be on patrol.
