Duterte to extend Bato's term as PNP chief 'a little bit longer'

MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte will extend anew the term of Philippine National Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa, who is scheduled to retire in April.
Duterte said he is extending dela Rosa's term because the police chief enjoys his trust and confidence.
"The police has always been a problem...There are scoundrels, scalawags in every organization. That is why the PNP (chief) now who is supposed to retire on the 24th of April, and because he enjoys my trust and confidence, I will extend his term for a little bit longer," the president said during the oath-taking of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce (Phil) Inc. in Malacañang.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said dela Rosa's tour of duty may be extended by three months.
Dela Rosa, a graduate of Philippine Military Academy class 1986, reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 on Jan. 21, 2018.
The president had extended his term by three months so he could handle "unfinished tasks."
Dela Rosa is expected to head the Bureau of Corrections once he retires from the police service.
