Sara: I’m no fan of my father, but...

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - She says she’s no fan of her father, but Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio took up the cudgels for President Duterte yesterday against criticism hurled by Pangasinan Archbishop Socrates Villegas.

“How dare you call us pimps of the EDSA spirit and yet it is you who cannot accept what has happened to our country since 1986. How dare you say that we are trying to prostitute the meaning of EDSA,” she declared.

The mayor said she was prompted to write about the EDSA spirit because of a letter Villegas earlier wrote to the late Manila Jaime Cardinal Sin about what has happened to the spirit of EDSA since the people power revolution happened 31 years ago.

“I was so disturbed by the rant that I decided to take out my pen from retirement and practice once again the only talent that I have, writing,” Duterte-Carpio said.

“Unfortunately for you, Archbishop Villegas, this is not a biased commentary on your letter to the dead because I am not a fan of President Duterte,” she added.
