Like I haven't heard that before
A prisoner at the New Bilibid Prisons allegedly tried to set himself on fire inside his cell. Witnesses said that he first set fire to his pillow while high on drugs. The fire was immediately put out before it could spread but the prisoner did sustain burn injuries. Authorities denied he was high because he was coherent after the incident. The prisoner was a former "mayor" or boss of a known drug gang inside the prison, so it still could not be established if a rival gang tried to kill him. But why are we even talking about something like this?
A search of the prison yielded drugs, cellphones, bladed weapons and even guns from the drug gangs. Why are there even drug gangs inside a prison? An explosion that hit a mosque inside the compound was said to have caused by a grenade. But again, the authorities have denied that it was a grenade, although an explosion did take place, injuring some. A grenade inside the NBP? Again, why are there incidents like this going on inside the NBP?
Contraband can only enter the prison through visitors of inmates and suppliers who deliver goods to the prison. And these most definitely need the blessing of the prison guards to happen. Blessings with money, of course. There have been so many changes in the leadership of the NBP, but I wonder if the subordinates are disposed of as well. Because no matter how many times you change the director of the NBP, for as long as those that guard the entry-exit points of the prison remain the same, then nothing really changes. If many of the guards are already compromised, then the party goes on for the inmates. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why all the contraband gets into the NBP.
Every time a new director is sworn in at the NBP, the first agenda is always reform. Like I haven't heard that before! What is needed is to purge every guard that has been in the NBP for the past five to ten years. Contacts must be severed, routines changed. Positions or stations revamped. Surprise searches must also be done, in case some are still able to slip the guards. Honestly, if the leadership of the NBP wants to instill reforms, it can be done. The illegal activities will cease, the contrabands stopped. But I think there are some inside who feel they are more powerful than the NBP, making them do whatever they want. They have established their own kingdoms inside the prison, and even the guards that watch over them have learned to fear them. I for one no longer believe that the NBP punishes or rehabilitates those found guilty of their crimes. It only provides them a place to stay. It only allows them to set up shop inside the compound.
It merely houses them.
