MNTC proposes new toll roads

MANILA, Philippines – Manila North Tollways Corp. (MNTC), a unit of Metro Pacific Investment Corp. (MPIC) has submitted unsolicited proposals to the Duterte administration, including the construction of new roads along Circumferential Road 5 and the extension of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).

MNTC president and CEO Rodrigo Franco told reporters the company has submitted a proposal for the extension of NLEX Segment 10 up to R10 in the Port of Manila costing around P7 billion.

“This is unsolicited but still under the concession because it goes to the port, a part of the harbor. But it’s not an identified project under the concession,” he said.

Franco expressed optimism that the government would approve the project immediately as it would not require any application for right of way (RoW).

“We hope that it gets approved immediately so we can implement it along with the NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10,” he said.

MNTC also submitted to the Toll Regulatory Board and the Department of Public Works and Highways a concept proposal for possible overhead road structures along C-5.

“It’s not ripe yet, but we have submitted something. We have to finish first the extension of Mindanao Avenue going to C-5,” Franco said.

Meanwhile, MPIC is also expecting to acquire the bulk of its RoW permits for the P34.5 billion Cavite-Laguna Expressway by the first quarter of 2017.
