‘Finding of the True Cross’

The Society for Cultural Enrichment Inc. (SCEI), in partnership with Filipino Heritage Festival Inc. (FHFI), recently held the 2017 Santa Cruz de Mayo at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

At the helm of this significant event were SCEI president Angola Consul Helen Ong and vice chairman Dr. Jimmy Laya together with FHFI president Mita Rufino and 2017 Santa Cruz de Mayo organizing committee chairperson Maila Garcia-King.

The participants, led by this year’s hermanas mayores SCEI members Rose Basa, Carol Mercado and Merci Padolina, did a retelling of biblical stories and characters, culminating in the “finding of the True Cross” by Empress Helena and her son Constantine I, the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.

The FHFI is known for its continuous campaign for the Santacruzan to return to its intrinsic religious significance as well as its cultural value in Philippine history, and this latest event was a wonderful push towards that goal.
