‘Fashion Harmony:’ A walk for charity

THIS WEEK ON PEOPLEASIA - The Philippine Star

Congratulations are in order for the successful staging of the charity fashion event dubbed “Fashion Harmony” organized by the Dean of the Consular Corps of the Philippines (CCP) and Monaco Honorary Consul General Fortune Ledesma and event chairman, Gambia Honorary Consul Agnes Huibonhua. Guest-of-honor was Foreign Affairs Secretary Jun Yasay, who was accompanied by his affable wife Cecile.

Held at the New World Makati Hotel, the fashion show saw well-known personalities with members of the diplomatic and consular corps doing the “fashion walk” for charity. Senators Migz Zubiri, Sonny Angara and Bam Aquino as well as business personalities Jimmy Bautista of PAL, Kevin Tan of Megaworld and philstar.com’s Kevin Belmonte gamely showcased barong Tagalogs and Filipiniana dresses from SM Kultura’s latest collection. SM Kultura has been a consistent partner for the annual fundraising event.

New World Makati general manager Farid Schoucair, who was also celebrating his birthday, did the walk, too, and showed his support for the fashion event aimed at raising funds for abused and abandoned children as well as the elderly and victims of calamities and disasters.

The Consular Corps of the Philippines has conducted a lot of community development programs over the years that include disaster relief and rehabilitation, scholarship grants to deserving students and other education-related initiatives like assistance to select public schools. The Corps also supported the housing program of Gawad Kalinga to help victims of typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan who were displaced from their homes. CCP also partnered with Conservation International to reforest mangrove areas in Occidental Mindoro as part of climate change adaptation initiatives.
