More beds for lepto cases in Metro – DOH

MANILA, Philippines — Forty-eight beds have been allocated for leptospirosis patients in private hospitals in Metro Manila, according to the Department of Health.

The DOH said the number includes 11 additional surge beds for leptospirosis. Current admissions stand at two, leaving 46 beds vacant.

The Medical Center of Muntinlupa has the highest number of available beds at 10 followed by Olivarez General Hospital with eight beds. The F.Y. Manalo Medical Foundation Inc. has seven beds available.

The Fatima University Medical Center and Marikina St. Vincent General Hospital have five available beds each.

The DOH has so far recorded 8,317 leptospirosis cases nationwide, for a 14-percent increase from last year’s 7,280 cases.

The DOH advised the public to proceed to the nearest health center for proper diagnosis and treatment when experiencing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, nausea, muscle pain, headache and reddish eyes.
