Envoy visits Bohol business partnership with Taiwan enhanced

Ric V. Obedencio - The Freeman

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  â€” Sustainable business partnership, alongside education and cultural concerns, between Taiwan and Bohol has been enhanced with the recent visit to the province of Taiwan Ambassador to the Philippines Raymond Wang.

This was the impression of local businessmen following the visit of Wang, his wife and some Taiwanese businessmen who already have links with businesses in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.

Wang and company paid a courtesy call on Governor Edgar Chatto on Sunday evening at the People’s Mansion in this city. The envoy said he was impressed of the strides gained by Boholanos in the field of eco-tourism.

Chatto told the envoy that the people of Bohol have united themselves to push for eco-cultural tourism, which has been summarized with the tourism marketing slogan: “Bohol heart of the islands: Truly Philippines.”

Liza Flores and co-workers of the Governor’s Office later toured the ambassador and company to the Chocolate Hills in Buenos Aires of Carmen town, the Loboc River Cruise and the natural sanctuary of the tarsiers in Corella town, about 10 kms. from the city.

Wang and his party stayed at the Amorita Resort, a white sand stretch in the coastal barangay of Tawala in Panglao town.

In an exclusive interview, Marlito Uy, general manager of the Alturas Group of Companies, said one of the businessmen who accompanied the ambassador has been supplying his stores with products sold at his Island City Mall.

Uy added that he expected additional investment by Taiwanese in Bohol province. He treated the visiting envoy and his group, after arrival at the city port, to a luncheon at his home atop a hill overlooking his over 50-hectare fishpond in Maribojoc town.

Mayette Gasatan, president of the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told The Freeman in a separate interview that she expected better business relations between Taiwan and Bohol from hereon. (FREEMAN)
