Natividad rules CEPCA President’s Cup 2024

Veteran chess player Richard Natividad added another item to his trophy case after emerging as champion of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) President’s Cup 2024 on Saturday, May 18, at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Natividad finished the 7-round Swiss system competition with the highest output of 6.5 points to clinch the title and go home P8,000 richer.
Christopher Tubalado, National Master Arnolito Cadiz, and Venancio Loyola Jr. ended their campaigns with identical 6.0 points, but Tubalado pocketed the P5,000 second prize by virtue of a superior tiebreaker applying the Bucholz system.
Cadiz and Loyola received P3,000 and P2,000 for placing third and fourth, respectively.
Allan Pason and Daniel Baylosis occupied the fifth and sixth spots with 5.5 points apiece.
John Dave Lavandero, Joselito Loquez, Joel Pacuribot, NMs Leonardo Alidani and Carlos Cabuenos, Lemuel Montero, Emmanuel Bryan Abujan, and Arena International Master wound up seventh to 14th with 5.0 points each.
NM Rommel Ganzon, with 4.5 points, completed the Top 15 list of the one-day tilt bankrolled by CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas as part of his birthday celebration.
Meanwhile, the top two performers in their respective categories were Arnolito Cadiz and Venancio Loyola (Cepcans A), Rafael Perez and Edwin Alcarde Bacaron (Cepcans B), Glydel Janine Rodrigo and Kristina Concepcion Belano (female), Leonardo Alidani and Carlos Cabuenos (50-above),Daniel Baylosis and John Dave Lavandero (Under 20), Lance David Gimena and Neil Capangpangan (Under 18), Matteo Rafael Codinera and Xander Dabriel Santos Escarda (Under 16), and Paolo Palang and Renier Vistar (unrated).
