CEBU, Philippines – It's all systems go for the expanded Sunsport Basketball Training Camp in Cordova that will start on September 6 at the Cordova Sports Complex.

The five-week cage clinic, which ends on October 4, will be held on Saturdays covering two hours per session from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. It is open to aspiring hoopsters aged eight to 19 years old.

Training camp director Giovannie “JoJo” Romarate said they usually hold the annual event only during summer but due to strong public demand, they decided to come up with weekly camps. The other one is currently going on at the Sacred Heart Sports Center Sports Club along D. Jakosalem Street, Cebu City.

Romarate said in the course of the training, participants will learn both the fundamental and technical aspects of the sport.

"We will impart to our students the fundamentals of the sport such as proper shooting, dribbling, passing, footwork and other related drills," said Romarate, who is also the head coach of Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Skyblazers. "Aside from that basics of basketball, they will also be taught on some offensive and defensive strategies, on-court communication and other technical aspect of the game," he added. "Above all these drills, we want to instill in them the value of hardwork, discipline and teamwork as well as the spirit of sportsmanship, which is the very essence of a well-rounded athlete."

Registration fee is pegged at only P1, 000 inclusive of an upper jersey and a Sunsport basketball 2014 edition.
