Cugtas, Sato pace 6th Amo Cup golf

CEBU, Philippines - Lawyer Marlou Cugtas and Jufil Sato hold the provisional lead in the rain-soaked 6th Albino D. Gothong Memorial Cup also known as the Amo Cup, which opened Saturday at the par-72 Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City.

Cugtas leads the contenders for the lowest overall net honors shooting ten-under-par 62 strokes.

Sato, for his part, finished at two-over-par 74 to set the pace for the lowest gross honors.

Cut off time was at 5 p.m.

Some of the organizers of the 6th Amo Cup pose for posterity before the ceremonial tee off.

Action was delayed for about an hour in the afternoon due to heavy rain.  Play resumed when the skies cleared.

Sato also leads class A with his net score of 67 followed by Chandran Rama with a net score of 70 and Peter Po, who had an eagle-aided net score of 71 strokes.

Po nailed his second shot on the downhill par-4 No. 14 for an eagle.

Cugtas also paces the class B race with Nelson Rosales four strokes back scoring 66 and Roy Damole finished with a 68.

Jephte Romea leads class C with a net score of 64 followed by Jojo Ong with 65 and the duo of James Tan and Jason Yu with 66 apiece.

Ed Sy paces the seniors’ class with a net score of 61 strokes followed by AVGCC Chairman Oly Dychangco with 62 and Tito Lerio with 63. (PR from www.fullpointcebu.com) (FREEMAN)
