CEBU, Philippines — At least 60 houses have been razed by fire affecting 70 families in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City shortly before noon yesterday.

The fire victims are now temporarily sheltered at the barangay gym while personnel from the Mandaue City Social Welfare Office are giving them food provisions and other disaster kits.

The city social welfare office has also started conducting profiling of the 375 individuals affected by the fire incident. According to the social welfare office, there were 60 houses totally burned and two partially damage.

The fire department received the emergency call at 11:53 a.m. It was placed under second alarm at 12:11 p.m. until it was declared fire out at 12:42 p.m. Initial investigation revealed the fire started at the residential house of Merced Kyamko at Sitio Alliance, Barangay Basak, Mandaue City.

The fire department estimated the damage at P280,000 with zero casualty.

SFO1 Shanmie Brian Pocado, Mandaue City fire investigator, said they had a hard time penetrating the fire scene because of the narrow access.

“Nag lisod gyud ta sa access sa kagamay sa dalan pag-abot sa sulod nadugang ang problema kay kulang nasad og tubig kay dili man kasulod ang dagko nga truck, penetrator raman unya dali kaayo mahutdan og tubig,” Pacado said. – /FPL (FREEMAN)
