Victims of fire from 2020-2023 get aid from national government

CEBU, Philippines — Over 400 fire victims in Cebu City finally got the long-awaited financial assistance from the National Housing Authority through the efforts of Senator Bong Go.

At least 415 owners of houses that were destroyed in a fire from 2020 to 2023 were given ?10,000 each.

The recipients of the aid com from Brgys Mambaling (107), Tisa (4), Labangon (96), Basak San Nicolas (134); and Sambag II (74).

“Ang kaning pundo ani inisyatibo gyud ni Senator Bong Go, gisulod sa NHA ang pundo so, ang NHA nagpahigayon sa pagpanghatag ubos sa Emergency Housing Assistance Program,” said NHA-7’s Regional Manager, Engr. Rizalino Cabahug through the City’s News and Information team.

The City’s Department of Social Welfare Services led by Portia Basmayor endorsed the names of these fire victims to NHA.

“After sa sunog, ato na siyang i-validate…registration, recommendation, kinsay angayan hatagan og financial assistance. Bisan asa maapektuhan nga fire victims, unya ang atong mga ayuda national government, DSWS tanan, sectoral private man o government mohatag sa atong ayuda,” said Basmayor.

Further, another round of distribution of financial aid to fire victims this year coming from the funds of Senator Go’s office coursed through the NHA is also already being processed, according to Basmayor.

Earlier, these fire victims have already received assistance under the Assistance to Individual in Crisis Situation (AICS) program also from the funds of the Office of Senator Go through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7.

Senator Go, through a video message, reminded everyone to be extra careful to avoid another untoward incident.

Apart from cash, the 415 also received grocery packs, rice, vitamins, balls, and more. Senator Go also raffled off four rubber shoes, cellphones, and more. — (FREEMAN)
