Cebu gets new customs collector

CEBU, Philippines — A new customs collector will assume in the port of Cebu starting Monday, April 1, 2024.

Collector Romeo Rosales was appointed as the new district collector of Cebu. He will replace lawyer Ricardo Morales II who was reassigned as the new collector of Subic Port.

Rosales is the current collector of Manila International Container Port, the biggest among the 17 customs district collection ports nationwide.

“As I prepare to embark on a new journey at the Port of Subic, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude towards each and every one of you. The past eight months have been nothing short of extraordinary, and I want to express my deepest appreciation for your unwavering dedication, commitment, and hard work,” Morales pins a message on Facebook for customs officials and employees in Cebu.

Morales, who assumed as Cebu district collector in August of last year, said that it has been an honor to lead such a remarkable team and these months have been the most fulfilling period of his tenure as district collector, and he is immensely proud of the cohesive unit that Team Cebu has become.

Morales said that he is also proud of the respect and discipline that they have shown not only towards him but also towards each other and the responsibilities entrusted to them.

“Each one of you has exemplified the values of respect and discipline, contributing to the success and smooth functioning of our port and airport operations,” Morales said.

Morales added that he have no regrets in selecting such exceptional individuals to join him in leading the Port of Cebu and their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts have reaffirmed his belief that he made the right choice in entrusting the future of the Port to such capable hands.

“Although I may be leaving for a new assignment, please know that my heart remains with Team Cebu. I eagerly await the opportunity to return and continue our journey together. Remember, the Port of Cebu is not just a workplace; it is a family, and each of you holds a special place within it,” Morales said.

Likewise, Morales thanked Team Cebu for their outstanding contributions and unwavering support as he looks forward to the opportunity to work with them again in the future. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
