CEBU, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced the start of the voters’ registration on February 12 in line with the mid-term national and local elections.

“Karapatang bumuto, simulan sa pagpaparehistro,” Comelec stressed in their announcement.

The registration period will run until September 30, 2024.

Individuals can register even on Saturdays, especially those working or studying except for some days that will be declared by the Comelec.

At the moment, already declared as no voter registration is from March 28, 29 and 30 in observance of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Black Saturday, respectively.

Comelec-7 expects at least 10 percent of the total active registered voters as new registrants.

At the moment, only the offices of election officers will be accommodating voter registration.

However, satellite registration including in schools, gyms, covered courts and malls may also be done via Register Anywhere Program (RAP).

For those who want to register, one must be at least 18 years old with any valid identification (ID).

Meanwhile, Comelec-7’s spokesperson Omar Shariff Mamalinta told The Freeman that they will also be conducting a voters’ education in selected schools here.

This is also to prepare potential registrants in the electoral process.

Pilot areas for the students’ voter education are the cities of Cebu and Mandaue, but the schools involved are yet for approval. — (FREEMAN)
