Cebu City forms buskers group
CEBU, Philippines — Street acts, including playing music, dancing, and other forms of entertainment, are expected to add more life and color to the City of Cebu with the creation of the Cebu Buskers Association (CBA).
“In other parts of the world busking is famous…In Cebu, we are known for our talents in music ..and exposing our own music to the public thru busking can be achievable, especially since we have now the digital platforms,” said Ramil Ayuman, one of Mayor Mike Rama’s special assistants who also heads the newly-formed CBA.
The newly-formed association kicked off with a mini-concert at the City Hall with Kurk Fick, Rommel Tuico, and Dos Campañeros also showcasing their talents.
Rama himself along with Vice Mayor Raymond Garcia is in full support of the said association.
Ayuman told The FREEMAN that they are forming this association ahead of the heritage district that the city government is mapping out.
“This is also in support to Vice Mayor Raymond Garcia who is the chair of Cultural Historical Affairs Commission in declaring some sites as Heritage district. The newly formed group can perform and promote our own Cebuano compositions,” added Ayuman.
Aside from that, this also provides more livelihood opportunities to the local musicians and other entertainers here.
The FREEMAN learned that City Councilor Joel Garganera is also helping the group to get support from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). — GAN (FREEMAN)
