CT scan now available at CCMC

CEBU, Philippines —  The availability of a CT scan procedure at the Cebu City Medical Center is expected to help patients and their families who could not afford the high cost of such a procedure.

Previously, residents had to go to private hospitals for such imaging.

CT scan combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around the body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues accordingly. This is very useful in the detection of diseases and injuries.

CCMC’s own CT scan can now be of use after General Electric officials calibrated the equipment, according to the report of the Public Information Office of Cebu City.

The hospital’s radiology technologists have also been trained already for the proper use of such modern equipment.

According to Sonia Empenado, assistant head for the administration of the hospital, radtechs will multi-task so that if one is not available, another one can operate the equipment.

After the CT scan, CCMC is also expecting the arrival of its Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment next month.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, for his part, said he wants the hospital to also have an eye center and a dialysis center soon.

Rama envisioned CCMC to be modern and world-class whose services will be made available, especially for the poor.

The completion of the whole CCMC building is expected to be done this October. - JMD (FREEMAN)
