Cebu City Sports Center to reopen Saturday, February 19

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) will be reopened for fitness activities anew on February 19, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama announced.

“We have already set it on February 19, Saturday. It was final already before, but it’s just that Odette came in that’s why we postponed it,” said Rama.

The reopening of the CCSC will be highlighted with the 85th Cebu City Charter Day fun run-walk-jog event by the city government.

CCSC was first closed to the public following a nationwide lockdown last summer of 2020 due to COVID-19.

It was closed for a long time as Cebu City had been on an enhanced community quarantine for a long time.

It was then briefly re-opened but had to be closed to the public anew after being converted into a Mega Stay-in facility for COVID-19.

It was supposed to be re-opened for public use last December but did not push due to supertyphoon Odette.

CCSC then was used as the city’s Command Center for some time.

The CCSC grandstand was not spared from the wrath of Odette that Rama decided not to re-open it for the public yet while debris had not yet been cleared.

Aside from fitness activities, CCSC’s multi-purpose gym has also been utilized as a vaccination site.

Repair works for the CCSC grandstand is also expected to begin soon as there is already a budget for it, the mayor also said.

“I was talking to the sports managers and the commission. They will do a fast track," said  Rama. — Decemay P. Padilla, KQD (FREEMAN)
