Woman nabbed for estafa cases

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - Philstar.com

CEBU, Philippines — A businesswoman who is into selling jewelry items was arrested after her supplier filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-7 after she allegedly failed to remit her sales amounting to P15 million.

The authorities identified the suspect as Raquel Cordova or Raguel Undang, who is facing five counts of estafa. She, however, denied the accusations.

CIDG-7 Deputy Regional Chief Police Major Ronald Allan Tolosa said they have received information that Undang was supposed to file her bail, but the court found out that there was another warrant of arrest for a similar offense filed under Undang’s name, which resulted in the serving of the warrant against her inside the courtroom.

Undang said that she is ready to take all the responsibility since she has admitted that she hasn’t returned the remittance yet. However, she said it was because the complainant closed all her bank accounts along with the memorandum that prevented her from collecting payments.

Tolosa said that Undang allegedly failed to return or remit the sales of up to P15 million worth of jewelry items since 2017.

Undang also claimed that since the case was filed against her, she has not been evading the arrest in her home in Toledo City where she was also arrested by the police.

Undang denied the allegations that she owed P15 million.  She said the amount of the unreturned remittance is only about P500,000.

Undang added she has documents to support her claim.  GAN (FREEMAN)
