Fire hits 5 houses, biz establishments in Toledo

Mae Clydyl L. Avila - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Five houses and business establishments were razed by fire in Barangay Poblacion, Toledo City Saturday afternoon, the fire department said.

At least P160,000 worth of properties went up in smoke, said Fire Officer 1 Jennifer Calzadora of the city’s Bureau of Fire and Protection.

The properties include an internet café, a junkshop, and three houses.

The fire, which was reported at 3: 45 p.m., was controlled in around 30 minutes.

No one was hurt in the incident.

“Lima ang nabiktima ni nga sunog, pero wala ra’y nasamdan gawas na lang sa mga balay ug business nga naugdaw,” Calzadora said.

He said there is an ongoing investigation to determine where it started and its cause.

“Sa karon wala pa ta’y mahatag nga unsa gyud ang sinugdanan ani nga sunog kay under investigation pa man,” he said.

Faulty electrical wiring or electrical misuse, throwing lighted cigarette butts, unattended cooking, children playing with matches or lighters, gas leaks, bonfires and arson are the common causes of fire.  —/KBQ (FREEMAN)
