Ex-fratmen Behind ‘recruit abuse’

Ermida Q. Moradas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Expelled members of Alpha Kappa Rho (AKHRO) fraternity were responsible for recruiting minors in Sibonga town, southern Cebu, a police official said.

Police Senior Superintendent Edgar Alan Okubo, Cebu Provincial Police Office director, said Michael Olanda, 20, Armel Cuizon, 22, and Marvin Aliponga, 19, were no longer bonafide members of the fraternity after flagrantly disobeying AKHRO rules.

But the suspects illegally formed their own group using the name of the same fraternity.

“Ang masama the suspects continuously carry the name of Akhro. Labag sa laws ng Akhro ang mag-recruit ng minors,” Okubo said.

The expelled fratmen were arrested on April 4 for allegedly forcing two girls, aged 11 and 12, to use shabu and to engage in sexual acts with them.

Another suspect identified as Archel Lambayan, 19, however, was able to elude arrest during a hot pursuit operation by the operatives.

Okubo said they are intensifying their monitoring on fraternities recruiting minors and conducting hazing activities.

“They should be aware of community service dahil baka niloloko din sila. Minor students must also be informed na bawal silang ma-recruit,” said Okubo. (FREEMAN)
