Talisay College upgrades to get CHED authority

CONVERSATIONS - Iris Mariani B. Algabre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City College (TCC) is now improving their facilities to get Government Authority from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to operate their BS Hospitality Management course offering.

At present, the college is able to offer the program with a special permit to operate granted by CHED.

According to TCC President, Dr. Richel Bacaltos, this special permit will soon expire.

“We have to have permanent authority nga permit gikan sa CHED to offer HM program otherwise if we cannot do that ma-invalidate ang graduation sa mga bata, dili legal ang pag-offer ug course, mao na ato gi-work out,” Bacaltos said.

Bacaltos said that next year, CHED will inspect the college to determine if they have met with all the requirements to be granted Government Authority.

They are starting to comply with the requirements needed like room for the faculty members and staff, and other physical facilities needed for the program such as a mini-hotel, kitchen, and function room which will be used by the students as part of their coursework.

Bacaltos also disclosed that only the BS Hospitality Management program does not have a permanent Government Authority from CHED.

TCC also offers Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education, and BS Industrial Technology, all of which have been granted permanent Government Authority.

For the college to continue producing effective and successful professionals, they are hopeful that CHED will grant them the permanent Government Authority after the inspection in February next year.

The improvement was made possible after the City of Talisay allocated P10 million for the school’s rehabilitation. (FREEMAN)
