No sale, transfer of PUVfranchise starting August 13
‘Already commercialized’ — LTFRB
CEBU, Philippines - Citing commercialization, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will prohibit the sale and transfer of franchise for public utility vehicles starting August 13.
LTFRB-7 assistant director Rey Elnar said PUV owners have until August 12 to sell and transfer the franchise of their vehicles.
“Gihimo ni sa LTFRB tungod kay gi-commercialized na ang franchise. Dapat kadtong mga PUV operators or owners nga di ganahan mo-drive sa ilang mga sakyanan, dapat ilaha nang iuli sa gobyerno. Kay ang paghatag og prangkisa sa gobyerno ngadto nila usa man kini ka prebilihiyo,” said Elnar.
The LTFRB board through Memorandum Circular No. 2016-010 stated that effective Aug. 13, it will no longer receive any petition for the sale and transfer of franchise.
Julieto Flores, spokesperson of the Cebu Provincial Bus Operators Association, said they will just have to comply with the LTFRB memorandum circular.
“Aw, motuman na lang mi ana. Bisan mosupak pa mi, mao ra gihapon ipatuman lang gihapon na nila,” said Flores, who is also the president of the Cebu South Mini-bus Operators.
To recall, LTFRB issued a moratorium on the issuance of franchise to all PUVs in 2001 and such order was reiterated in 2010.
Until now, Elnar said, the moratorium is still in effect. (FREEMAN)
