Cebu City: Another op against street children soon
CEBU, Philippines - Within the week, the Cebu City government will be again rounding up children dwelling in the city's streets.
Acting mayor Margarita Osmeña said they will now have roundup operations conducted regularly after noticing that street children are already all over the city.
"Before they concentrated in Colon, Fuente Osmeña, and now they are all over the place as you can see," she said.
The operation will be conducted by the City Task Force for Street Children, Department of Social Welfare Development, Department of Social Welfare Services and Cebu City Police Office.
Osmeña said she has no idea as to where the city's task force will concentrate its roundup operation.
"I don't know but somebody texted to me to look at the skywalks," she said.
No specified date was also given as to the day of the operation so the children will not be aware.
Those rescued will be brought to Parian Drop-in Center for background check and assessment.
On June 2, the CCPO and other national government offices rescued at least 42 street children loitering in barangay Sto. Niño and Mabolo, at Manalili St., Mango Avenue, Juana Osmeña Ext., and Fuente Osmeña Circle.
The children were temporarily sheltered at the drop-in center in Parian.
Parents of some of the children signed a covenant that they will no longer let their kids stay in the streets. (FREEMAN)
