Man indicted for raping 8-yr-old girl near school

CEBU, Philippines- A man accused of allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl at the back of a school in Cebu City was indicted for rape by the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor.

Prosecutor Gandhi Truya held the man for trial after finding probable cause against him for violation of Article 266 of the Republic Act 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997.

The FREEMAN is withholding the names of the victim and the accused owing to the sensitive nature of the case.

The accused allegedly raped the minor in Barangay San Jose, Cebu City around 3 p.m. on November 26, 2014.

In her affidavit, the minor said the accused pulled her towards the cooking area at the back of a school in the barangay.

She shouted but the accused covered her mouth and then allegedly sexually abused her.

The minor said the accused gave him P5 after but she refused and ran.

The accused also reportedly offered to give P10, P3, and P5 if the minor would not tell anyone about what happened.

The girl confided the incident to a social worker. They immediately proceeded to Talamban Police Station to report and then to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for examination.

The accused failed to submit his counter-affidavit and other controverting evidence despite being summoned.

This prompted Truya to resolve the case based on the allegation of the victim and elevate the charges against the accused before the Regional Trial Court.

Truya recommended P120,000 bail against the alleged rapist. (FREEMAN)
