Trisikad driver shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - A 37-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified men on board a motorcycle Tuesday night in Barangay Poblacion, Asturias town.

Rolly Cereño Esguera, sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and back after unknown assailants shot him past 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday in front of the town’s central school while he was driving his trisikad.

Senior Inspector Glen Devocion, Asturias Police Station chief, said that a concerned citizen called the station’s hotline after he saw the victim shot by two men.

Devocion said he and his men responded to the report and found the victim lying on the road with gunshot wounds.

The assailants were said to be 5’4” tall and were wearing dark t-shirts and ball caps and were riding a black motorcycle.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim was driving a trisikad towards the town proper and was tailed by two unidentified persons riding a motorcycle.

Gunshots were heard by a witness who saw the victim fall to the ground. 

The assailants stopped when they saw the victim lying on the road and the back rider alighted from the motorcycle and shot the victim twice on his right chest, making sure that the victim was dead.

The men fled heading towards the direction of Balamban town. — (FREEMAN)
