MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo de Manila freshman Iya Fianza ruled the ladies’ division of the prestigious Nanoy Ilusorio Cup at the Baguio Country Club golf course recently.

Playing from the back tees of the tough Baguio layout, Fianza collected 41 points under the Molave scoring system to top her side of the competition and make it a double-championship for the family with her father Eddie bagging the crown in men’s Class A with 42 points.

Fianza humbled a field that included a slew of Baguio bets as she held her own in a flight with Ethan Co, Raffy Sohu and Baguio Country Club Fil-Am  player Miggy Sohu.

She started playing golf at 12 years old but stopped when she made the Assumption College cheerdance team. She was the co-captain in her junior year and the captain in her senior year.

When the pandemic struck, her interest in golf was re-ignited, and she’s is now slowly getting back to form.
