Lascuña makes move with 68

Dante Navarro - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Tony Lascuña sustained a second-round  effort of 69 with a three-under 68, moving from joint 65th to a share of 39th in the third round of the Final Qualifying Stage of the 2020 Asian Tour, which found a solo leader in Ben Follet-Smith of Zimbabwe in Thailand yesterday.

The veteran Filipino shotmaker pooled a 54-hole total of 209 at the par-71 Lake View Resort course, still nine shots behind Follet-Smith, who broke off a crowded leaderboard to seize solo control at 200 with a 67, a stroke ahead first-round co-leader Neil Schietekat, who carded a four-under card for a 201.

Ira Alido, who posted an impressive opening 68, continued to struggle, hobbling with a 73 after a 72 to drop to 213 in a tie with several others, including compatriot Justin Quiban, heading to the final 18 holes where the top 70 plus ties will dispute the top 35 cards up for grabs for this year’s Asian Tour.

Quiban, in contrast, rebounded from an opening 74, following up a second-round 69 with a 70 although he and Alido will have a lot of catching up to do to keep their Asian Tour hopes alive.

Missing the halfway cut were Pinoy hopefuls Fidel Concepcion, Lloyd Go and James Ryan Lam.
