Cool Smashers turn back Angels

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Creamline flaunted its power, teamwork and poise as it got back at PetroGazz, 25-19, 28-26, 25-20, to stretch its win run to five and firm up its hold of the lead in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan last night.

Celine Domingo stepped up for injured starter Pau Soriano, uncorking a nine-attack game and coming through with two kill blocks as she teamed up well with Alyssa Valdez, Michele Gumabao, Jema Galanza and Risa Sato, playmaker Jia Morado and libero Kyla Atienza.

The Cool Smashers bucked three set points in the second, parlaying the Angels’ faulty receptions to crucial points to steal the frame before pulling away late in the third behind Sato and Valdez to complete the victory.

The Angels, who beat the Cool Smashers to win the Reinforced Conference crown recently, slipped to 1-2.

Earlier, Choco Mucho blew hot and cold in a 25-21, 22-25, 25-14, 25-18 victory over Chef Classic to move to solo fourth.

Kat Tolentino and Maddie Madayag dominated the net while Grace Masangkay provided the spark with her 37 excellent sets.
