Donaire KO's foe, retains WBA bantamweight crown
MANILA, Philippines – Nonito Donaire Jr. knocked out Stephen Young in the sixth round to defend the WBA “super” bantamweight title at the Cajun Dome in Lafayette, Louisiana in the US on Sunday.
The 36-year-old Donaire uncorked a vicious left hook that landed flush on Young’s head, sending the 30-year-old challenger to the canvas and ending the fight.

It was the semifinals of the World Boxing Suoer Series bantamweight tournament, and Donaire thus advanced to the finals where he awaits the winner between IBF titlist Emmanuel Rodriguez and WBA “regular” champion Naoya Inoue.
Donaire booked his second straight win as a bantamweight (118 pounds), a few months after stopping Ryan Burnett in Glasgow, Scotland. The four-division champion — Donaire has also won titles at flyweight, super flyweight and featherweight — raised his record to 40-5, with 26 knockouts.
