Aidric Chan, Sean Ramos duel up in Riviera MVPSF Am

MANILA, Philippines — Aidric Chan and Sean Ramos gear up for a spirited showdown for the men’s championship while a wide-open battle is seen in the women’s side of the Riviera MVPSF Amateur Championship which gets going tomorrow at Riviera’s Langer course in Silang, Cavite.

Chan and Ramos will be coming into the 54-hole championship, presented by the MVP Sports Foundation, brimming with confidence with the former coming off back-to-back low amateur feats in the Philippine Golf Tour and the latter riding the crest of back-to-back wins in Cangolf Am Open and the NGAP Regionals.

But a slew of talented players are also in the fold, ready to spoil the duo’s title bid in the event organized and conducted by the National Golf Association of the Philippines and held as part of the PLDT Group National Amateur Tour.

They include Carl Corpus, Dan Cruz, Leandro Bagtas, Aldo Barro, Paolo Barro, Josh Jorge, Miguel Olivarez-Ilas, Rald Sarmiento, Paolo Uy and Paolo Wong.

Sofia Legaspi, meanwhile, will have her hands full as she tries to make it two in a row in the women’s division against last year’s runner-up Kayla Nocum and a host of others, including veteran internationalist Sofia Chabon from The Country Club stable.

Also vying for the crown are Sunshine Baraquiel, Nicole Abelar, Laia Barro, Sam Dizon, Laurea Duque, Kristine Fleetwood, Bernice Olivarez-Ilas, Rafaela Singson, Kristine Torralba and young Eagle Ace Superal in one of the strongest casts in a local amateur championship.

Other titles to be disputed are the Mid-Amateur and Seniors to be disputed over 36 holes. Also on tap is the Special Division for boys’ and girls’ 12 years old and below as part of NGAP’s grassroots program, also to be played over 36 holes.
