Arnis Open under way in Makati
MANILA, Philippines — After scouting for national athletes in Baguio and Bacolod recently, the Arnis Philippines Inc. (ARPI) continues its search for arnisadores in Makati.
Dubbed as Makati Arnis Challenge, the event will have its championship round tomorrow at the University of Makati gym.
The featured events are Anyo, Labanan Isahan and Labanan Kampihan, said head coach JR Baldos of UMAK arnis team.
“As the national martial art of the Philippines, arnis continues to expand its horizon as it influences more and more citizens in the country,” said ARPI president Raymond Velayo.
ARPI, the 33rd member of the Philippine Olympic Committee, has embarked on a program to further develop the sport through tournaments. In partnership with the Province of Capiz it has now expanded to the Visayas.
With the help of Gov. Antonio del Rosario, ARPI is formally announcing an upcoming tournament Oct. 29-30 at the Capiz Gymnasium Villareal Stadium in Roxas City.
