Lions, Pirates seek semifinals ‘bonus’
MANILA, Philippines — San Beda University and Lyceum of the Philippines U mix it up with Arellano U and St. Benilde today, seeking victories and Final Four incentives in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying Center in San Juan.
The Lions, who show the way with a 14-1 record, clash with the Chiefs at 4 p.m. while the Pirates, at second with a 14-2 slate, tangle with the beleaguered Blazers at 2 p.m., both out to firm up their hold of the top two spots for the all-important twice-to-beat edges in the semis.
“The initial goal is to make the Final Four, which we have achieved. The next step is the twice-to-beat advantage, which we are now hoping to get,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.
San Beda owns the league’s longest active streak thus far at eight after it demolished St. Benilde, 77-55, with Robert Bolick leading the charge with 19 points.
