Unscathed Petron, F2 out to defuse rivals bid

MANILA, Philippines — Despite securing the quarterfinals incentives, unbeaten Petron and No. 2 F2 Logistics are expected to stay on attack mode as they take on rivals out to bolster their own quarters bids in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan today.

The Blaze Spikers try to stretch their win run to nine as they clash with the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors at 4:15 p.m. while the Cargo Movers gun for their eighth win in nine games against the HD Spikers at 7 p.m.

Sta. Lucia and Cignal share fifth place at 3-5 but both teams would need to defy overwhelming odds to hurdle their highly rated rivals in the tournament bankrolled by Isuzu and UCPB Gen with ESPN5 as official broadcast partner.

With their superb records, Petron and F2 Logistics have clinched the twice-to-beat edges in the next round, leaving Cocolife (5-3), Foton (4-4), Cignal and Sta. Lucia to fight for the other two.

The Lady Realtors and the HD Spikers actually kicked off the second round with losses with the former dropping a 20-25, 18-25, 25-20, 22-25 setback to the Asset Managers and the latter absorbing a 23-25, 25-27, 25-21, 30-32 loss to Foton Tornadoes last Tuesday.

Those losses put the Lady Realtors and the HD Spikers in must-win situation in last two games in the classification phase to gain at least a shot at the last two twice-to-beat incentives in the quarterfinals.
