Air Force takes flight in Spikers' Turf

MANILA, Philippines -- Air Force soared to an impressive start as it nipped a stubborn Instituto Estetico Manila, 25-19, 25-27, 25-21, 25-20, at the start of the Spikers' Turf Season 1-Reinforced Conference presented by PLDT Home Ultera at The Arena in San Juan City on Saturday.

Power-hitting Alnakran Abdilla led all hitters with 17, 15 came on kills, one on a block and one on a service ace to help lift the Air Spikers to their first victory that jumpstarted their campaign.

Meanwhile, reigning Collegiate Conference titlist PLDT Home Ultera aims to set in motion its title campaign as it plays a dangerous Cignal at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Ultrafast Spikers will carry with them the memory and momentum of their Collegiate Conference title conquest last May when they overcame the tough Cagayan Valley Rising Suns.

PLDT will field in a talent-laden squad headed by reigning NCAA MVP Howard Mojica of Emilio Aguinaldo, St. Benilde's Johnvic de Guzman and Santo Tomas' Mark Alfafara and will be coached by Odgie Mamon, who steered the team to the first conference crown.
