Popp tows jungolf winners

MANILA, Philippines - Kristoffer Popp came through with the highest  tournament point total of 101 in topping boys Class B even as Jonas Magcalayo and Aidric Chan topped their respective divisions in the third leg of the second leg of the ICTSI-JGFP School Season Series at the Philippine Navy Golf Club course.

Popp tallied rounds of 52 and 49, outlasting Dan Cruz who led by three in the first round but made just 42 in the second for a 97. Lester Lagman wound up third with a 42-54-96 in the ICTSI-backed event conducted by Junior Golf League and the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines with the support of Philippine Airlines, Pancake House, Sizzlin’ Pepper and Golf Depot.

Magcalayo, scoring 48-41-89, finished way ahead of Bryan Banatin (63) and Miguel Borja (52) in Class A while Chan (49-45-94) held off Ira Alido (40-52-92) in Class C with Philippe Palanca claiming third with  his 41-47-88.

Sam Martinez, Annika Cedo and Ashia Nocum topped their categories in the girls division of the series the third leg of which will be played today, tomorrow and March 3. A different activity is in store for Classes D, E and F on March 9 and for Classes A and B on March at the Riviera Sports Club that will include a rules seminar, sports performance clinic and a skills challenge.

Martinez ruled Class A with 74 points ahead of Chanelle Avaricio (42) and Sandra Nocum (28); Cedo (83) prevailed in Class B over Sam Green (73) and Annika Guangko (58) and Nocum took Class C honors in runaway fashion with an 88, beating Kayla Nocum (71) and Jona Magcalayo (61).
