Newbies outshine veterans in Circuit Showdown opener

MANILA, Philippines –  Newcomers sparkled like gems as the first leg of the 2011 Circuit Showdown sped off before a huge crowd last weekend at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

Paolo Montolino, in his 2005 Subaru STi, submitted the day’s fastest time at 1:53.949, beating former Formula 3 driver Philip Alvendia in the event which attracted 70 participants and assembled a 20-car grid for the wheel-to-wheel section of the event.

Not to be outdone, Alvendia bounced back in the grid race, where he showed his experience in wheel-to-wheel racing and took twin wins in the Grid A races. Other back-to-back winners were Rafael La’O in Grid R and Marcus Timbol in Grid B. Other winners were Stevie Rojas of Rota Wheels in Bracket B, Ramon de Oteyza in Bracket C, Paolo Sy in Bracket D, Mark Arce in Bracket E and Jules Arambulo in Bracket F.
