Busan medalists earn trip to Doha

All medalists in the Asian Games in Busan, Korea in 2002 are among those given outright berths for the Philippine team to the Doha Asiad in December.

The Philippines won 26 medals in Busan, and all these medalists are seeded for the Doha joust provided he or she is still active or has maintained competitive form.

Equestrianne Mikee Cojuangco, bowlers Paeng Nepomuceno and RJ Bautista and billiards artists Django Bustamante and Nikoy Lining delivered three golds in Busan. The RP team also grabbed seven silvers and 16 bronzes.

POC president Jose "Peping" Cojuangco Jr. believed around 100 athletes will make it to the team under the selection guidelines approved by the POC executive board in a meeting yesterday.

For team sports, teams will be evaluated on a case-to-case basis with the qualifying processes set by their respective Continental Federations as prime considerations.

Individuals to be considered for the team are those top-ranked players in their respective events in Asian and world levels. — Nelson Beltran
