Para sa paglalaro ni Blatche sa 2014 Asian Games: Basketball body kinatigan ang Pinas

MADRID, Spain – Na­kakuha ang Pilipinas ng kakampi sa FIBA ka­ugnay sa eligibility issue kay naturalized center An­dray Blatche para sa Asian Games sa Incheon, Ko­rea.

Ipinag-utos ng interna­tional basketball fede­ra­tion (FIBA) sa Asiad or­ganizing committee na isa­ma ang 6-foot-11 NBA veteran sa line-up ng Gilas Pilipinas para sa Incheon Asiad na magsisimula sa Setyembre 19.

Sa isang liham sa mga top officials ng Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee na may petsang Setyembre 5, iginiit ni FIBA secretary general Patrick Bauhmann na si Blatche ay “registered in FIBA’s eligibility system as a player for the Philip­pines” at nararapat na ma­kapaglaro sa lahat ng FIBA-sanctioned cham­pionships, kasama dito ang Asian Games.

“(Blatche) has, in fact, just played several games this past week at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain for that coun­try. It is quite confu­sing to hear that he is now not allowed to compete for the same team just a few weeks later,” wika ni Bauhmann sa kanyang sulat kina IAGOC sec­retary general Kwon Kyungsang, sports headquarters director general Jo Youngha at entrie de­part­ment director Mun Ho­sung.

Ipinaalala ni Bauhmann sa IAGOC na ang In­ternational Basketball Fe­deration ang nagtatakda ng eligibility criteria para sa lahat ng basketball athletes sa buong mundo sa ka­nilang paglahok sa na­tio­nal team competitions sa official basketball competitions na inorganisa o may basbas ng FIBA.

Sinabi pa ni Bauhmann sa IAGOC na ang Asian Games ang gu­ma­gamit sa kanilang mga In­ternational Referees na si­yang nagpapatupad ng Official Basketball Rules ng FIBA.

Ipinilit ng FIBA top official na dapat na gami­tin ang FIBA rules.

At sa kasong ito, ang pag­payag ng IAGOC na ma­kapaglaro si Blatche pa­­ra sa Pilipinas sa In­cheon Asiad.

“I would kindly request that you review your de­cision and apply FIBA’s regulations on eligibility for all teams participating in the basketball tournament at the Asian Games and re-enlist the Filipino player,” ani Bauhmann.

“This would certainly be fair for the athlete concerned and his country,” dagdag pa nito.

“Equally, if the same set of eligibility rules, namely that of the Interna­tional Federation, is being applied to all international basketball events for national teams across the world, it ensures clarity for the media and the fans alike and credibility for the sport.”

Ang mga binigyan ng kopya ng liham ni Bauhmann ay sina IOC sports director Kit McConnell, NOC relations diretor Pe­re Miro, OCA director general Husain Al-Mu­sallam at FIBA Asia sec­retary general Hagop Kha­jirian.

Kinuwestiyon ng IA­GOC ang eligibility ni Blatche sa ilalim ng sina­sabi nilang three-year re­si­dency rule sa Asiad.

Sinabi ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas na ang naturang patakaran ay angkop lamang sa mga na­turalized players na nakasabak na sa mga international competition para sa ibang bansa.

Umaasa ang SBP na aa­prubahan ng IAGOC ang paglilista kay Blatche sa Philippine lineup sa ida­raos na delegation re­gis­tration meeting sa Set­yembre 11.

Sa pagkakadagdag kay Blatche ay inaasahang la­laban ang Gilas Pilipinas para sa Asiad gold medal na hindi pa nagagawa ng bansa sa nakaraang apat na dekada.

Ang mga isasabak pa­ra sa Incheon Asiad ay sin Blatche, Gabe Norwood, Jared Dillinger, Jay­son Castro, Paul Lee, LA Tenorio, Jeff Chan, Ga­ry David, Ranidel de Ocampo, Marc Pingris, Ja­peth Aguilar at June Mar Fajardo.
