POC kinumpleto ang election committee

MANILA, Philippines — Hinirang ng Philippine Olympic Committee sina Congressman Conrado Estrella III, Fr. Vic Calvo ng Letran at Atty. Teodoro Kalaw bilang mga miyembro ng Election Committee para sa darating na special election sa Hulyo 28 sa Century Park Sheraton Hotel sa Manila.

Si Kalaw ang kumatawan sa Philippine Disputes Resolution Center, habang si Estrella ng Abono Party List ay chairman ng Committee on Sports ng House of Representatives.

Mahigit 36 sa kabuuang 45 regular members kabilang ang dalawa mula sa Athletes Commission at IOC Representative to the Philippines Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski ang dumalo sa isinagawang POC Extraordinary General Assembly alinsunod sa direktiba ng International Olympic Committee at Olympic Council of Asia noong Hulyo 2.

“We have already elected the members of the Comelec. Now, it’s up to them to lay down the rules, when to file the candidacy and scrutinize the qualifications of the candidates,” sabi ni POC board member at Surigao del Sur Rep. Butch Pichay na umaktong presiding officer.

Dinaluhan din ni IOC at OCA representative Narinder Dhruv Batra ng India ang pagtitipon bilang observer para matiyak ang maayos at tahimik na EGA.

Si Batra ay presidente ng India Olympic Association at pangulo ng International Hockey Federation.

Umabot sa 47 National Sports Associations (NSAs) ang boboto sa nasabing espesyal na halalan matapos bigyan ng voting power ang skateboarding at ice hockey at ang mga may problema sa liderato kagaya ng weighlif­ting  at karatedo, kailangan ng certification mula sa ka­nilang international federation na magpapatunay na sila ang kinilalang NSA sa Pilipinas.
