PNoy tiniyak na 'di aabusuhin ang emergency power
MANILA, Philippines – Tiniyak ni Pangulong Benigno Aquino III ngayong Martes na gagamitin lamang ang emergency power na hinihingi niya sa Kongreso upang maresolba ang problema sa kuryente.
"I am aware that investors in the energy sector are worried about these measures distorting the market, but let me assure you: government intervention is meant only to address the shortage,” wika ni Aquino sa Energy Smart Philippines 2014 sa lungsod ng Pasay.
“The sole goal of this initiative is to make sure our economy does not lose its momentum in the event of an energy shortage.”
Nitong Setyembre ay pormal na hiniling ni Aquino sa Kongreso na bigyan siya ng kapangyarihan upang maresolba ang tinatayang 300-megawatt (MW) na kakulangang kuryente sa 2015 sa Luzon at upang makagawa ng 300 MW na power reserves.
Sinasabing papasok ang “critical electricity situation” sa susunod na taon dahil sa epekto ng El Nino at ang nakatakdang maintenance shutdown ng Malampaya natural gas facility at iba pa.
Ikinakabahala ni Aquino na makakaapekto ang kakulangan ng kuryente sa ekonomiya ng bansa, kaya naman nais na niya itong masolusyunan.
Samantala, iba ang nakikitang dahilan ng militanteng grupong Bayan Muna sa paghingi ng emergency powers ni Aquino.
“The President asked for emergency powers just like Republic Act 7648 during Ramos’ time and the essence of this power is to ask Congress for authority to enter into negotiated contracts for additional generating capacity,” wika ni Bayan Muna representative Neri Colmenares.
