 LONDON--Magma­martsa ang Team Philippines bilang pang 146 sa order of parade sa hanay ng 205 bansa para sa opening ceremony ng 30th Olympic Games ngayon.

Bilang flag-bearer, paparada si weighlifter Hidilyn Diaz sa 60,000-seat Olympic Stadium para pamunuan ang 25 Filipino athletes, coaches at officials.        

Magsusuot ang dele­gasyon ng isang Rajo Laurel-designed Filipiniana attire na gawa sa rayon fabric kasama ang sombrerong salakot sa seremonyang magsisimula ng alas-9 ng gabi (alas-4 ng hapon sa Manila).

“Excited na akong pu­marada at dalhin ang watawat ng Pilipinas,’’ sabi ni Diaz na kagaya nina tennis champion Maria Sharapova ng Russia at Los Angeles Lakers’ star Paul Gasol ay paparada bilang mga flag bearers.

Ito ang unang pagkakataon na ang isang wo­man athlete ang tatayong flag bearer ng Pilipinas sapul nang lumahok sa 1924 Olympics sa Paris. Si boxing icon Manny Pacquiao ang nagdala ng watawat ng Pilipinas sa 2008 Beijing Games.

Kasamang paparada ni Diaz sina archers  Mark Javier at Rachelle Cabral, boxer Mark Barriga, BMX rider Danny Caluag, long jumper Marestella Torres, long distance bet Rene Herrera, shooter Brian Rosario, swimmers Jasmine Alkhaldi at Jessie Khing Lacuna at judoka Tomohiko Hoshina.

Makakasama nila sina chief of mission Manny Lopez, Philippine Olympic Committee chair Monico Puentevella, businessman at shooting head Mikee Romero, coaches Yasuhiro Sato ng judo, Chung Jae hun ng archery, Joseph Sy ng athletics, Tony Agustin ng weighlifting, Gay Corral ng shooting at administrative officer Arsenic Lacson.

Bilang pinagmulan ng Olympics, unang papa­rada ang Greece at ang host Great Britain, may kabuuang 542 athletes, ang pinakahuling magma­martsa.
