Don’t blame Omicron

The Philippine Star

The government warned the general public against violating health protocols.

A Filipino woman traveler will be charged for allegedly violating quarantine rules upon returning from the United States. But who is not violating COVID rules after the government put Metro Manila under Alert Level 2 beginning last Nov. 5? Violators have been everywhere since then.

Look at how Filipinos have been “upbeat,” ignoring even the very basic and minimum health protocols of social distancing and wearing of masks.

Can’t we see the connection between the traveler’s attitude/violation and the government’s Alert Level 2 tolerance in the name of the Christmas season or for the sake of the economy? Was it the first time that such a violation occurred? Or is it just the first time the government made a big issue/news out of it?

The case can be likened to a mother who allowed her child to play with fire, and when the child got burned, she spanked the child. Why shift to others the blame for your fault?  Shouldn’t somebody say instead, the buck stops here?

Who’s to answer for the new and sudden rise of COVID infections in the country? Don’t blame anyone, much less the Omicron variant. Blame yourself or your brand of the “Christmas season.” – Reni Valenzuela [email protected]
