Why the untimely transition to GCQ?

The Philippine Star

Solving COVID-19 and fixing the economy we can’t do both at the same time.

By refusing to do enough in restricting movements of people to put COVID-19 under control, the government is making the matter a strict choice between healing the nation’s pandemic crisis or treating its symptoms of economic recession. There is no such thing as a “balancing act” to solve a problem. Solve it out and out or there’s no solution.

The least and best our officials can do is to address the latter as hard as they can, but not at the expense of the former. To be able to do it, the needed lockdown rules should not be compromised. However, they seem always inclined to temper solutions rather than devastations.

Do we, as a people and nation, have to be gasping for breath, perpetually? We can only alleviate the pandemic’s negative effect on our economy for the meantime, to solve COVID-19. Only wise actions done with open eyes. Why waste the ordeal and benefits of previous lockdowns?

Contain the virus, not the cure. Paradoxically, the government appears habitually bent on doing the opposite. In effect, it is removing all other options for the country to recover and be well by its repetitive bland actions and mild “prescriptions.” – Reni M. Valenzuela, [email protected]
