University of Massachusetts execs conducting free counseling July 26, 27

MANILA, Philippines - The University of Massachusetts was rated as the 56th ranked university system in the world by the Times of London in 2010, just 6 places behind Harvard. With campuses in Lowell, Boston, Dartmouth and Amherst many students have long regarded this iconic university as having the same stature as the “big name” universities of the East Coast and New York area. The recent rankings confirm their view.

UMass are visiting the Philippines today and tomorrow (July 26 and July 27) to talk to students who would like to take Bachelor’s or Masters degrees in their prestigious campuses. Through a partnership with Navitas, Philippine High School graduates are now able to go directly to the Lowell, Boston and Dartmouth campuses and complete their Bachelor’s degrees in four years. Likewise college graduates can be accepted into UMass Masters degrees in a wide range of subjects though the Navitas on-campus pre-Master semester and still complete their degrees in two years.

Bea Querol, one of the students from the Philippines who is attending UMass for a Masters Degree in Psychology wrote: “Indeed, the Pre-Master’s program being offered to us by Navitas at UMass Lowell has been helpful in such a way that it has given us life-long tips for effective communication through speaking, reading (and researching), and writing, across cultures in both academic and communal settings. As early as now, I could say that I am geared up for my Master’s of Science course work under my major, Autism Studies.” (http://navitasatuml.word press.com/)

Eric Fuerstein of Umass/Navitas will be giving one-on-one free counseling at the US Commercial Services section of the US Embassy from 2 - 5 p.m. today, and will also be giving a presentation of the university at the same venue at 6 p.m. The US Commercial Services are located at 25th Floor Ayala Life - FGU Center, 6811 Ayala Avenue, Makati. Slots for the free counseling or seat reservations for the presentations may be obtained by contacting International Education Specialists of Makati through text on 0917-5860552 or calling 819-1001.

UMass are also hosting an Alumni Get-Together tomorrow at the Belgium Room of the Ascott (opposite the InterCon) from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. All UMass Alumni are cordially invited to the cocktails evening and are asked to confirm their attendance by texting Inter-Ed on 0939-9142387 or calling 8191001. It is great to note that the New Chancellor of UMass Dartmouth - Dr. Divina Grossman is a UST graduate, so the connections between UMass and the Philippines are strong. The Provost of UMass Lowell summed up the key advantages of a US Education at UMass when he wrote: “Our academic programs prepare you for work in a global society, either in academia or industry. We focus keenly on student success, offer a robust campus and community life, and we are affordable.”
