ALA gives young boxers better jab opportunities

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

PHL’s Nonito Donaire failed to KO his Argentine opponent Omar Narvaez. Still, I think, he deserves to be hailed for a jab well done.

* * *

 Fight fans are saying that Narvaez lost because he didn’t throw much punches. They say some basketball players can do a better jab.

 Speaking of boxing, the famous ALA boxing camp has been helping young boxers rise. It helps them find better jab opportunities.

 When my friend Ted Lanuza (now in the US) wanted to know where Hsieh Min Nan, the Taiwanese who won the PHL Open golfest in the 1990s, is now, he himself said: “Maybe Nimrod, TF’s golf guru, could give me the Q.”

* * *

 I said: “Nimrod? Nag-diaper pa si Nimrod in 1990. But kidding aside, Nimrod gave Ted the Q. Hsieh is in Taiwan as distributor of high quality golf equipment. Nimrod said moduaw siya sa Taipei and look for the Taiwanese golf star. “To Hsieh is to believe,” he said.

 Nimrod got the info on Hsieh Min Nan from his friend (mine too?) John Uy. Thanks Nimrod and John for helping my reader find Mr. Hsieh. Hsieh you, guys.

 E-mail from “Someone Who Cares”: “I have a name, Sir, but I sign mga letters and messages ‘Someone Who Cares’ because I care for many things that affect the wellbeing of our country ... Like this bloody conflict between the government troops and the MILF terrorists ... I am happy to note that the score in this fight is no longer 29-0 as you said in a recent column, it is now 16-29 still in MILF’s favor.”

 Mr. “Someone Who Cares” is referring to the number of casualties on both sides — 29 dead for PHL and 16 for the rebels. So far...

 Some years ago, I wrote about a resident who was nabbed by the police for “possession of illegal drugs” which were later determined to be legal over-the-counter medicine for stomachache. The resident, despite the trouble and inconvenience he had gone through, did not file any complaint.

* * *

 Of the police officer who nabbed him because of his ignorance, the resident said: “Wa nalang ko mo-reklamo kay ignorance of the law excuses anyone if he’s a dumbed cop.”

* * *

 I recall this incident because it has happened again. A jogger was nabbed by a cop in plainclothes while the jogger was taking his medicine for migraine. The cop threatened to take him to the police station but for the intervention of a doctor nearby.
