GMA's Truth Omission

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero Ballescas -
No, that is not a misspelled word. We are really using the Truth Omission rather than Truth Commission.

Do we really think GMA needs to create a commission to ferret out the truth about her call?

May we ask you, our readers, to let us know if you think a Truth Commission is necessary and can you tell us why or why not?

Do you think GMA should be commended for acting swiftly and decisively on the suggestion of the bishops and business people to create a Truth Commission before her SONA?

As far as we are concerned, we certainly think we don't need a commission for the truth to come out. We only need for GMA to rectify her truth omission. Our nation and people only need for GMA and the Comelec official to tell us the truth about their telephone conversations.

Had GMA not omitted the name of the Comelec official, the dates and the number of times that she called, and the purposes for which she made numerous calls, then by now, the truth would have come out. Had she informed the nation about the whole truth behind her calls to the Comelec official, by now, no one would be crying out for the truth to come out or for a commission to ferret out the truth.

Had Comelec official Garcillano surfaced by now and told the whole truth to the whole nation about the "Hello, Garci" tapes, whether it was him or not who talked to GMA, and if it was him, when and how many times they talked and for what reasons, then we would have no more need of any Truth Commission.

We also do not think that GMA acted swiftly and decisively about this truth commission. We think she has procrastinated and continues to delay the full disclosure of the truth behind her calls to the Comelec official.

If she were really sincere about the truth coming out, she would herself been the one to bring Garcillano out in the open much, much earlier. Together, GMA and Garcillano would have informed the public about the truth behind their conversations shortly before or soon after her public apology about her lapse of judgement. GMA would have informed us all by now that it was or it was not Garcillano whom she talked to or she would have, by now, informed all about the identity of the Comelec official.

Or Garcillano would have gone public about the complete truth about the call. Was it him or not whom GMA called? If it was not him, why remain in hiding? Why not go public much earlier or until now? If it was him and if there was no wrongdoing on his part or that of GMA, where is he?

The public is baffled about GMA's truth omission. If she were convinced about her innocence, why not ask all her military, intelligence and police officers to produce Garcillano ASAP, pronto, right away, so that together they can tell the complete truth to the Filipino people? Then, no truth commission will ever be needed.

Why has Comelec, the subject of so much public doubt and distrust because of the "Hello Garci" tapes, not made any proactive move to clear its name? How come Comelec has not lifted a finger to produce former Comelec official Garcillano to clear his name and that of the Comelec?

What GMA needs to do immediately is to personally rectify her earlier truth omission and to start producing Garcillano or the Comelec official she talked to and together, they can present the full truth to us all. Why create a commission to ferret out the truth about the calls when truth is in the hands of GMA and the Comelec official?
